No Pants Toronto Subway Ride 2012 #NoPantsTO

NoPantsTO-TTC-Museum-Station-20120108

Today I was a partici-pantsless member of the 2012 Toronto No Pants Subway Ride on the TTC. This was my 3rd year in the past 4 years being a part of the fun prank which started in New York City 8 years ago and has grown internationally ever since, this was the 5th year they did it in Toronto.

We were lucky that this year we got to ride on the brand new TTC Rocket train when we got to Museum Station where we started off (still wearing our pants). As we each in turn took our pants off at prearranged intervals between stations and then departed the TTC Toronto Rocket we showed our fellow transit riders that riding the TTC pantsless in January is “The Better Way.” We then got on the next train and rode all the way to Eglinto Station where we turned around and went back south to Museum Station.

Good times were had by all for this good, clean fun. We made plenty of people smile which was the goal. A couple of people asked me what the heck was going on and my response was that I’d “forgotten my pants at home and was on my way to an important meeting I couldn’t be late for.” (I don’t think they believed me because they all just chuckled and stopped questioning it.) I even heard someone ask another partici-pantsless if we were doing a school project!

Even the media showed up for the event. CTV, CityTV, and CP24 were all there…but they all kept their pants on.

Did you go out and buy new “boxers” for the ride? 🙂 Because those do not look like boxers. They look more like shorts… like them the best though from the pics I saw.. either way still gutsy. The guy on the left side of the first pic.. now those look like boxers. But is the point of this ride to actually wear boxers/ underwear? Because if so.. I don’t really think any of the guys are following exactly right? The woman look like they are though. And well if the point is just to go pantsless in the winter then awesome job!! But if my memory serves, what you were wearing a year or two ago looked more like you literally took off your pants on a random day and was left with whatever you happened to be wearing underneath.

Thanks for the comment Jessica. No I didn’t go out and buy boxers for the ride the boxers you see me wearing in these pictures were actually made by me at a tweetup at The Sewing Studio (@TheSewingStudio) in February of 2011 – I blogged about it here http://wp.me/pVpvJ-fz. I wear those boxers on a regular basis to this day and they are actually one of my favorite pairs because I made them myself (with A LOT of help from Denise at T.S.S.). Therefore, I am following it exactly right – those are my underwear!

I think the appearance from a couple years ago also had a lot to do with the fact that I wore a blazer and tie but who knows. Next year I invite you to come out with us and show us how it is done!

pisses me off the way those guys don’t wear UNDER WEARS
Instead too many wear long ass shorts. Show those guys in real under wear with the shapely body.

No more wearing long ass hide your legs boxer SHORTS,
    WEAR “UNDER WEARS”

Thanks for making your thoughts abundantly clear.

Seeing as there is no such thing as “under wears” I don’t know how you expect anyone to wear it. If you mean “underwear” then I hate the break the news to you, my friend, but until you get appointed The Canadian Minister of Underwear OR The Official United Nations Underwear Marshall I don’t think you get to define what is and what is not called underwear. Personally, I only own boxers, no briefs or boxer briefs so that is what I wore.

What I personally am wearing are boxer shorts which I sewed myself at The Sewing Studio tweetup – see post here http://wp.me/pVpvJ-fz – and I wear them under my pants on a regular basis as part of my underwear rotation. Therefore, they are by very definition “underwear” (as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary which reads “clothing or an article of clothing worn next to the skin and under other clothing.”).

When and if you attain either of the positions mentioned above…or manage to get an accepted dictionary’s definition of what underwear is changed please feel free to comment again on whether or not the men were wearing the correct undergarments.

WOW!! I absolutely did not mean to start all this!! I was only teasing because your boxers looked like they were in such good condition. And what I meant when I said “Because those do not look like boxers. They look more like shorts” and “I don’t really think any of the guys are following exactly right” was that I was under the impression that there are usually slits in boxers and therefore might make sitting on the subway uncomfortable. But what do I know.

But even if someone did wear shorts (even though yes I do believe you that you were indeed wearing boxers that you made yourself) its still a fun and extremely gutsy thing to do in my opinion and if it came across as anything else.. my apologies. And thanks for the invite/ challenge but I will be the first to admit, I admire anyone that participated because I do NOT have the guts to do it myself.

And to wear under wears not long shorts or biker tights- you are being quite harsh and even rude. Where is your pic from that day?

Haha, I wasn’t offended and you didn’t start anything 🙂 I think that guy was gonna post what he was gonna post. I just like to be right and when I know I’m right I will defend myself with a ton of reason and rationale and logic.

As to slits in boxers I have no idea what you’re referring to…unless you’re talking about the one for us to use when we go to the bathroom which boxers do have but I don’t know why that’d be uncomfortable…it’s in the front, not on the subway seat.

I believe you do have the guts to do it you’re just holding yourself back with this limiting belief. You should come next year and if you decide not to do it when others do then you just don’t do it no harm no foul.

Phew!! 🙂 Well in this case I agree that you were right and I like the originality and phrasing of your answer. Where did you even come up with something like that? What happens when you are not positive that you are right or does that never happen.. :)?

Yes I am referring to the front slit. If my memory serves some are just open and some have buttons or the like, so I thought maybe it would be uncomfortable because of the possible exposure. Nothing to do with sitting on the actual seats in your underwear.. that is a whole separate thing. But, again, not sure, as for some reason, the majority of my boyfriends have been boxer briefs guys and one of them, for a short time, was a briefs guy. Not sure what, if anything, that means about my taste in guys though. But then again, I am now single again so maybe I should be looking to change that 🙂 (Can you tell I like emoticons?) I was curious so I googled it and the kind of underwear a man wears apparently does say something about the guy according to the absolutely credible websites I looked at I am sure. 🙂

Its not so much a limiting belief as me knowing myself. Although it seems like a good idea and something I should try myself to some degree, not everyone can be a “yes” man or woman. But showing up is something I can say yes too, if I remember in a year that is.

Every reply is pure me. It all came out of the collection of gray matter in my skull. When I am not positive that I am right I will freely admit it because being open minded is pretty important and I always like learning new things and trying new experiences.

As to the architecture of underwear – more specifically boxers – it isn’t uncomfortable because it isn’t actually a slit it is two overlapping pieces of fabric. Think about a button down shirt, unless the wind blows at just the right angle (and, as far as I recall, this has never happened to me) the wind doesn’t get between the buttons of your shirt onto your torso.

What do boxers say about men according to your obviously trustworthy and scientific websites? I took a Twitter poll on Thursday night and almost every one of the ladies who answered preferred boxer briefs on their men which I found pretty surprising but you learn something new every day.

gray matter.. 🙂 Well some people like to defend themselves NO MATTER what and it drives me crazy. And they just convince themselves that what they are saying is fact and that’s it. There is absolutely no way to have a conversation of any kind of back and forth with someone like that, in my opinion.

ok well I have heard of the flap but only seen the buttom and if you put your leg up or anything… but thank you for the lesson. Now I am well informed.

Well there were quite a range of opinions. But boxers specifically.. most said that guys usually find them the most comfortable to sleep in, but they are not suggested for wearing if you are either incredibly active or you sit at a desk all day (or if you wear tight pants). The active part I consider pretty self explanatory and the sitting is because they supposedly bunch up and you can feel it. Also according to a couple of polls I saw, the majority of men prefer boxers and the majority of woman prefer boxer briefs (as your poll shows as well) but most are fine with boxers as long as they are not goofy or have cartoons on them. There were a couple sights that said that men who wear boxers have a higher sperm count than men who wear briefs or boxer briefs, as men that wear briefs or boxer briefs sweat more since everything is so enclosed. Also woman say it really depends on the body type of the guy which underwear they specifically should wear.

The sight that says most about the personality of the guy according to what underwear he wears, in short, says that briefs mean the guy is practical but may not want to grow up. Boxers mean the guy is a traditional man’s man who does not buy into fashion trends. And as far as boxer briefs it basically just says that they are sold the most and that any man can wear them. And then there is a different type.. trunks, which are basically shorter boxer briefs and they are considered Euro, athletic and hot. And the guy who wears them is edgy. And I can never tell when writing whether someone is serious or not so you are aware that the sources are not at all credible right?

Twitter, now that is one thing that I can not figure out.. it just confuses me.
