Enjoy “Vaping” On Toronto’s TTC While You Can, It’s About To Be Banned

Toronto TTC banning vaping on transit

Since the dawn of the e-cigarette and e-hookah, “vaping” – as they call imbibing in them instead of smoking – has occupied this gray area in terms of whether or not you are allowed to do it in enclosed public places. All that is about to change for those in Toronto who use the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission). Minutes ago, the Head of Communications for the  TTC, Brad Ross, told me on Twitter that  “Bylaw No. 1 will be amended later this year to prohibit it officially.

In case you’re wondering what this “Bylaw No. 1” that Brad Ross is referring to says here’s a link. The relevant portion which will (I am guessing) be amended is:

“3.32 No person shall smoke in or on TTC property or carry a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, other tobacco product, or any other lighted smoking equipment or material while in or on TTC property.”

I wonder if Toronto is the first to ban it but I am trying to get this post out so I don’t have the time to research at all. Do you know of any other transit systems or public places that have banned vaping? Let me know in the comments!

Also, do you agree with this move? Or do you think that vaping should be allowed in public places? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Technically e-cigarettes arent lighted or lightable though, so how does that bylaw prohibit something that it doesnt even include. If a rent-a-cop showed me that bylaw i’d just ask him how he supposes i would light a metal and plastic tube.

Alex, the bylaw in its current form DOESN’T prohibit e-cigs which is why Brad Ross said they are going to amend it.
The part of the Bylaw No 1 I quoted (Section 3.32) which you are referring to was, as I said in my post, my guess that it would be the part they’d amend. For all I know they’ll make a whole new subsection of the bylaw or even a whole new section. I don’t work for the TTC or any legislative body so I have no way of knowing.

The most recent reports on e-cig vapour that I’ve seen indicate that while it still may have health risks for the user, the second-hand vapour appears to be harmless. So, if we can just institute a policy in hospitals for patients to pay the bills for their own e-cig-related issues, we’ll have a situation where only the person using the product faces any of the consequences.

      Reminder to Dan Levy:

Don’t play silly games. Hand over the I.P addresses of all the commentators on your article. The teachers need the evidence to file civil and criminal charges of defamation.

Such a shame that minorities are free to talk slander about white female teachers.

And you my friend, are a self-loathing misogynist for attempting to house and hide the information the teachers need to file a lawsuit against these disturbed individuals.

The TDSB would never hide anything from the public & we value civil liberties as much as you do, but slander and defamation are no grounds for freedom of speech.

Failure to hand over the I.P addresses will result in a subpoena application against your website and business premises. WordPress is probably in the U.S, and you will be sent to court if the Ontario Principals Council finds you guilty of harbouring the defendants.

Hand over the information, Dan Levy. You wouldn’t want to have a criminal record wouldn’t you?

Try a Personal Vaporiser without nicotine and enjoy our many wonderful flavours for a truly life changing experience.Vaping without nicotine and using a nicotine substitute such as patches etc could also be an effective strategy.
