There Is Hope!
Neutrogena MEN & I Want Change!
Together, We Will #StopJunkface!
That’s right, the name of the game is to #StopJunkface. “What the heck is ‘JunkFace’?,” you ask much as I did when I first received the email asking me to be a part of this campaign from the good folks over at Neutrogena Canada. The answer is explained very nicely in the video below:
For those of you who didn’t want to watch the video, Junkface is when a guy uses the same bar of soap, shower pouf, loofah, or washcloth for their face as they do for the rest of their body – specifically their man-parts aka their junk. When Neutrogena approached me I got both disgusted and excited by the prospect of being a part of this campaign.
First I got disgusted…because I consider myself a very hygienic person and I realized I was one of the 72% of men afflicted by Junkface. Yup, it’s true. I thought about it and realized that although I have always maintained separate, distinctive razors and towels for upper and lower body use my soap was cross contaminating my face with my junk on a daily basis. YEEEEECH!
Thankfully Neutrogena started a website dedicated to this problem and helping people like me. I have since cleared my Junkface up with the Neutrogena MEN Invigorating Face Wash which I have a coupon for you available right here (PDF) and which you have the chance of wining along with some other great stuff in the contest below.
If you head on over to StopJunkface.com you’ll see that you are not alone if you’re one of the people who until now was using the same soap for their entire body. Neutrogena MEN Canada even hooked me up with a basket of awesome which I posted to my Instagram (@TheDanLevy) and can be found here and is embedded below.
The package was honestly one of the best a brand has ever sent me for the simple reason that what I at first thought was a t-shirt with my Twitter avatar’s face on it turned out to be a pair of boxers with my face plastered all over it! It also included the tools I need to change my hygiene and end my Junkface affliction:
- A bottle of Neutrogena MEN Invigorating Face Wash
- A bottle of Neutrogena MEN Skin Clearing Shave Cream
- A bottle of Neutrogena MEN Triple Protect Face Lotion (which is also SPF 20).
And I have been using them regularly since the day I received them and no longer have to worry about what a female friend or relative is kissing when they kiss me on the cheek hello.
To encourage the spread of this message and changing the face of men’s hygiene I have teamed up with Neutrogena to give away a prize pack of Neutrogena Men Canada goodies to one lucky reader! Just check out the Rafflecopter Giveaway link below and enter the contest. Just like in 2008 when President Obama was campaigning to become the President of the United States, there is still Hope and I know that together we can reach to the Change which is on the horizon. (Do you think Obama has Junkface? …I don’t think Michelle would let that go down in the White House so probably not.)
If you don’t want to wait for the contest to end, here’s a coupon direct from Neutrogena Men Canada to save $1.50 when you buy Neutrogena MEN Invigorating Face Wash.
- Check out the StopJunkface website for more info about this serious issue here.

Disclosure: I received compensation for this post and being part of this campaign. However, all opinions and writing are my own.
Quick and dirty contest for my fans and lovers of electronic music. I was approached by the folks over at Fiction Productions to do a giveaway for a pair of tickets to the Sander van Doorn (SVD) show on Thursday, October 24 in Niagara Falls, Ontario at the beautiful and intimate Dragonfly Nightclub.
If you’ve never been to the Dragonfly it is a very nice club located inside the Fallsview Casino. The show is going to be super intimate because the place is pretty small and this is a pretty huge international DJ so if I were you I wouldn’t miss out on his set. In fact, SVD just got named Number 39 in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs for 2013 and you’re going to get to see him up close and personal.
Here is SVD’s most recent of his weekly radio shows also available directly here: https://soundcloud.com/sandervandoorn/sander-van-doorn-identity-203
In case you don’t win, you can still grab your tickets at www.wantickets.com/sandervandoorndragonfly
You can also get yourself a hotel package at www.fictionproduction.com/packages

CONGRATULATIONS TO JENNA-LEE POLLARD ON HER WIN. HOPE SHE HAS A GREAT NIGHT!!!
OK, I just got word about this contest I can run for you, my loyal readers. Electro-pop sensation Lights will officially kick off the Pepsi Taste Challenge at the all-new ‘Pepsi Pop-Up space’ at 315 Queen Street West in Toronto. There she’ll delight Pepsi fans by administering the popular Pepsi Taste Challenge and performing an exclusive acoustic set on Wednesday, June 26 beginning at 2:30 pm. The official Twitter hashtag for the Pepsi Pop Up is #PepsiPopUp for those of you who want to follow the action online. The contest I get to run is hooking one person up with two VIP tickets to this launch event!!! Details below!!! You know you want to check this out, I mean just look at that picture of Lights below, she knows how to play a keytar! You know a musician is awesome when they can bust out a keytar! (Although she probably won’t tomorrow, it being an acoustic set.) Read more…
From what they have said in the press release they sent me they tell me that the wine is the result of Diamond Estates bringing together three distinctly Canadian elements for the launch of “Hat Trick’ Wine. Toronto, Hockey, and fine Niagara wines come together to create the perfect hat trick of distinctly Canadian elements to host the launch of Diamond Estates newest vintages “Hat Trick White’ and ‘Hat Trick Red’.
Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd, one of Ontario’s leading winemaking facilities, has partnered with the NHL Alumni Association to come up with the new hockey-inspired VQA wines. Each three-varietal wine blend has been specifically crafted in collaboration between former NHL stars and the winemakers. $0.50 from each bottle sold goes to the NHL Alumni Association to support various charitable causes and promote the game of hockey. Charity is always good in my books which is why I am all the happier to be supporting this event and this wine. The event will be talked about on the Twitters using the hashtag #HatTrickWineLaunch.
Also, something which sounds just awesome, NHL Alumni Members will be in attendance to comment on the development process of Hat Trick. Attending members include: Johnny Bower, Rod Gilbert, Mark Napier, Lou Franceschetti, Troy Crowder, Dennis Maruk, Ryan Vandenbussche, Jason Zent, Dave McLlwain and more!
But, I have also decided that it isn’t enough to just tell you guys about an event I am going to because what the heck is the point of me telling y’all about an event you can’t or didn’t attend? This is why I contacted the folks over at Hat Trick Wines and they have graciously agreed to hook up one of my lucky readers with a prize pack! I can’t say what is in the prize pack because, I honestly don’t know right now but I have been told it’ll be damn good!
So here’s the deal: All you got to do is comment on this blog post below about your favorite NHL experience.
You can only comment once and have it count BUT you can get an extra entry per day if you tweet something like this:
The tweet has to have my Twitter handle, Diamond Estates’, a link to this post & the hashtag to be a valid entry.
Contest is open to GTA residents and is will be open for entry until Saturday afternoon at 5 P.M. Toronto time (as evidenced by my blog’s comment system – if it says you posted before then and you followed the rules you’re good to go!).
UPDATE: WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!
Thank you to all who entered and I wish I could give you all prizes […except the Habs & Sens fans 😉 I kid, I kid!]. I hope to do more such contests in the future and hopefully I will be able to include a further reach than just the GTA.
How I chose: I went through all the tweets that had been tweeted since the contest opened and wrote down the names of the tweeters going back from oldest to newest and assigned them a number starting with (duh) 1. I then went to the comments on this post that fulfilled the requested info – even if it was a Habs or Sens memory – and wrote down those names while continuing the count from the Twitter list. I again started with the oldest and went to the newest. I then went to http://www.random.org/ and used their “True Random Number Generator.” The random number it spat out was matched to the above mentioned list and I had my name.
The winner is….@annecayer with this tweet.
I will be contacting you shortly to get details so I can send it on to the people at Diamond Estates/Hat Trick Wine.
If you’re in Toronto there is a contest that I know you’ll want to hear about being run by my friends over at XavierPop.com. As evidenced by the poster below and the title above the contest is for two separate screenings to go see the new Muppets movie.
This movie is the first Muppets movie to be in theaters in 12 years which probably means there are teenagers out there who don’t remember having seen a Muppets movie on the big screen. This makes me feel old!
But enough about me! You want to know more bout these screenings! The contest being run by XavierPop is for a chance to win one of a whole whack load of double passes to the Advanced Screening of The Muppets happening this Thursday, November 17th OR this Saturday, November 19th in Toronto.
Enter using the instructions on the XavierPop website here and hopefully you win big and get to see this movie before the unwashed masses. (Shower not required if you win but I am sure everyone in the theater would appreciate it.)
To be clear, I have zero control over this contest and am just friends with the folks over at XavierPop. This is not my contest but is one I thought I’d let you know about because who doesn’t like movies and who doesn’t like free stuff? Add a movie along with it being free and you have a recipe for amazingness which I try and bring to you through this blog on a regular basis.
What: Advanced Screening of The Muppets
Where: AMC Metroplis 24 – Yonge and Dundas, 10 Dundas Street East, Toronto, ON map
When: Thursday, November 17, 2011 : 7:00pm – be there by 6.15 latest
What: Advanced Screening of The Muppets
Where: SilverCity Yorkdale, Yorkdale Shopping Centre, 3401 Dufferin Street map
When: Saturday, November 19, 2011 : 10:00am – be there by 9.15 latest
If somehow you have yet to hear about this movie I’ve also included some details about it.
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath The Muppets‘ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
So get on over to the XavierPop Muppets Contest post here and enter using the instructions you’ll find there. Best of luck and maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to see you at one of the screenings!
You may recall my entry to the Mobilicity contest to be the CEO Blogger and go on a road trip with CEO Dave Dobbin.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who voted for me and supported me in this endeavor. You don’t know how much I appreciate it.
Here is the video below in case you have yet to see it:
I asked you all to vote for me and my YouTube video and the video garnered so much attention that YouTube approached me to become a YouTube Partner for that video. (I sent in the necessary forms but am still waiting to hear back.) But, alas, even with 391 views, 39 Likes, 20 comments, and a YouTube Partnership offer it was not meant to be – I did not win the contest. Instead, a young lady named Kathryn Tom’s video (below) which got 8 Likes on Facebook under 200 views (pre-announcement that she had won), 4 Likes, and 0 comments on YouTube was the chosen winner by the panel of Mobilicity judges including Dave Dobbin himself.
Cool, I hope she is having an amazing time and I wish her, Dave Dobbin, and Mobilicity all the best. But, as a runner-up Mobilicity hooked me up with some nice swag which I would like to share with my readers. The way I figure it, I didn’t win the grand prize so someone else who is part of the LevyNewsNetwork family should get something because you guys all rock.
This giveaway is open to residents of the Greater Toronto Area ONLY (unless you’re physically in Toronto on a regular basis so that means all folks who are within driving distance and are around the Toronto area often are welcome to enter).
First up, we have a really cool Mobilicity branded messenger bag Read more…
OK, to be fair, this is the second contest in 3 months I am asking you to help me out with a contest. But I think all y’all know that this is the contest for me. Also, I wanted an excuse to add my video for the contest to this blog. If I win this contest, I will also finally be able to go on my epic road trip that I didn’t go on when I didn’t go to Chicago.
The contest is to be the official blogger for a road trip that Mobilicity CEO Dave Dobbin is taking across Canada.
According to the contest description the winner will receive
…a road trip with Mobilicity’s CEO, currently anticipated to commence from Toronto on or around July 15, 2011 and concluding in Vancouver by or around July 30, 2011 (the “Trip”). Transportation to Toronto will be provided (if the winner resides outside Toronto) and transportation from Vancouver (if the winner resides outside Vancouver) will also be provided.
….Prize winner’s attendance and participation in the form of documenting the Trip via social media are mandatory.
As my regular readers know (I hope!) I am a pretty good blogger and am a total social media addict so this would be superfantasticawesome for me. 15 days with the CEO of Mobilicity. As a phone and gadget geek that is like a dream come true!
Anyway, without further ado – here is my video. I hope you will “Like” the video on YouTube and support me in this endeavor!
