Wonders Of 21st Century Technology: Deaf Woman Hears For First Time!

September 30, 2011 2 comments

I saw this video earlier today via my friend Daniel Bader (on Twitter he’s @dbader) and thought it was just so amazing I had to share it with you folks.

According to the description of the video bleow – uploaded to YouTube by the woman in the video – she was born deaf and 8 weeks before the upload date of September 26, 2011 she received an Esteem hearing implant made by Envoy Medical.

The video I attached below and am describing is of them turning it on and the lady – sloanchurman on YouTube – hearing herself for the first time 🙂

There are some discrepancies in the video such as her claim to be 29 years old and her YouTube profile says she is 31. As well, she claims to be deaf from birth but in general I have found that people who are deaf from birth don’t speak like people with proper hearing. Something to do with them never hearing their own voices and knowing how to modulate and tone it properly. However, this woman sounds pretty normal when she speaks in the video. At the same time, I don’t know anything about her condition (is legally deaf different from “really deaf”?) so I am not going to judge.

Either way, this video is freaking cool. I hope it put a smile on your face like it did mine.
