Found @BlueJays & Other Memorabilia (But Mostly Blue Jays or Toronto)

I love finding stuff like this! In moving recently, I had to do some serious digging through EVERYTHING – way more intense than your average spring cleaning – and during this digging I found a bunch of old memorabilia. The bulk of it is all from Toronto except for one Florida Marlins pennant and mostly, the stuff is memorabilia of the Major League Baseball team in town – the Toronto Blue Jays. First, we have the picture above – when the Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and in 1993 each year they came out with tapes to celebrate the win. The tapes included parody songs like “Rockin’ Robbie” celebrating Roberto Alomar instead of “Rockin’ Robin” as the classic Bobby Day 1958 single is called.

They are quite corny but, in my opinion, an awesome part of Major League Baseball history in Toronto/Canada. Yes, they still work and I did listen to them in their entirety again since I’ve found them. I’ve been considering ripping them digitally but don’t really know how to go about that.

Toronto Blue Jays 20th Opening Day Ticket April 9, 1996 at the SKYDOME yes, younguns, this was before they called it the Rogers Centre. Yes, I was there. No, I don’t remember who won, and no I didn’t look it up. Crazy to think we are only 5 years away from their FORTIETH home opener. I feel old just writing that but take solace in not actually remembering the 20th home opener very well (I was 15).

1990’s Sports Pennants: Toronto Raptors, Toronto Blue Jays 1992 World Series Champions, & Florida Marlins – who, according to this Wikipedia article about them, are changing their name to the Miami Marlins next year in the 2012 season when they move ballparks from Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens where they have played since they were formed to – the still under construction – Marlins Ballpark in Little Havana, Miami. The new ballpark even has it its own Twitter account – I swear! – @MarlinsBallpark.

The Raptors one is also so old it has the original colors which included Purple! I wonder how old it is – there’s a 1994 trademark on the team logo but I don’t know if that says anything about when this is from. If I were to guess I would say it was in their first 2 or 3 years in existence, probably when they played their games at the SkyDome – before the Air Canada Centre was built and the Raptors and Leafs took up residence there.

was a benefit rock concert that was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 30, 2003. It was also known as “Toronto Rocks”, “Stars 4 SARS”, “SARSStock”, “SARSfest”, “SARS-a-palooza”, the “SARS concert”, or, more descriptively, “The Rolling Stones SARS Benefit Concert”. Estimated to have between 450,000 and 500,000 people attending the concert, it is the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history, and one of the largest in North American history. It was put together by the Rolling Stones who have a special place in their heart for Toronto (they practice for tours here often) and they wanted to help revive Toronto’s economy after the SARS outbreaks earlier in the year. In fact, when the concert was announced, Toronto was still under a SARS warning from the World Health Organization.
